Profile
I am an assistant professor working at the Clinical Psychology department at the University of Amsterdam. My work focuses on the effect that memories of aversive experiences have on various forms of psychopathology, including specific phobias, anxiety and depression. Particularly, I am interested in identifying the circumstances under which human can best learn from corrective experiences. I furthermore investigate what specific aspects of emotional autobiographical memories relate to depressive symptoms and how we can best change these aspects of memories using novel therapeutic techniques. In addition, I am interested in the computational modeling of human behaviour in relation to associative learning and psychopathology.

Current research projects
- Emotional Memories in Depression: In this project I investigate the relationship between negative autobiographical childhood memories and the development, maintenance and treatment of depression.
- Rules of Human Associative Learning: Broadly speaking, this project aims at further delineating the conditions under which humans employ various associative learning strategies, and identifying which strategies are most adaptive and can therefore be used to optimize learning during psychological interventions such as exposure therapy.
