Science and technology are typical features of our modern society. I try to understand - using the brain as a starting point - how these eminently human activities throughout history have influenced the way we live and try to understand ourselves.
I studied psychology (1998) and science and technology studies (2003) at the University of Amsterdam. I have a PhD in medical history (2023) from Utrecht University. Since 1998 I have taught psychology, social sciences and psychobiology at various universities. Currently I teach and coordinate the Honours Programme Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, I write about brain science for a wider audience.
