I study the neurobiological basis of personality and psychopathology. I am particularly interested in the behavioral control of stress as an underlying resilience and vulnerability mechanism of different manifestations of psychopathology. Regarding the brain, I focus on the connectivity patterns between cortical and subcortical brain regions. Along the way, it has also become clear to me that the progress in this type of biological psychiatry research is slow, and I would argue much slower than expected one or two decades ago. I am also interested in the interrelated theoretical, methodological and clinical questions as to why this is the case.
