    Background

After graduating from law school at the University of Utrecht, I worked for an international bank in various departments involved in lending to international companies. I then worked for a recruiter, during which time I also studied Communication Science at the UoA. After that I worked as an independent consultant and then as a trainer/developer at a commercial training company.

During that time, I participated in a research project aimed at identifying which interpersonal communication styles could be distinguished, followed by a project in which a measurement instrument for the communication style model was developed. Subsequently, I started a PhD research at the VU, department WOP. During that time I also supervised bachelor's and master's theses at WOP and at Communication Science at the VU. In 2012 I completed my dissertation entitled "Leading with style: An investigation of the way leaders communicate with subordinates".

    Areas of interest

I started as a lecturer at the UoA's WOP program group in September 2012. I teach the subjects Leadership and Organizational Culture in the WOP specialization program, and the courses Career Management and Coaching in the WOP master's program. I am also the WOP internship coordinator and I supervise internships, bachelor's and master's theses.

My areas of interest are: leadership (behaviour of leaders), organizational culture, interpersonal communication, work & health and coaching & counseling. Questions that interest me are, for example, how leadership is related to employee performance, but also to health and well-being in organizations, what influence leaders have on organizational culture, how organizational culture and structure are related to organizational performance, how coaching and counseling can contribute to well-being and performance.
