PhD students experience their way towards their degree very differently. Here, (former) heads of the different programme groups share their own PhD experiences. They answer questions related to practical issues, such as how long it took them to complete their PhD or how many publications their thesis included, to more general aspects of a PhD, such as the combination of work, family, and social life. At the end, they sketch the profile of a good supervisor, as well as give their advice on how current PhD students can achieve a career in academia.
We would wholeheartedly like to thank all of the interviewees for accepting our invitation and sharing their experiences! We hope that the present ‘words of wisdom’ will serve as inspiration for current PhD students on their way towards the successful completion of their degree.
